out of interest KCJack, when you get a less common breed in like this, do you make contact with the breed rescue?

I'm just thinking that in many breeds the breeders can recognise various lines and they may be able to trace the breeder (even without paperwork) to confirm whether they will take responsibility....and if not, at least the breed club will know this is one breeder not to recommend.

I'm one of the first to slate irresponsible breeders, but I can't help but think that the breeder and/or the breed club should be given the opportunity to 'put things right' when one of their breed does end up in rescue.

No we dont as we deal with the legal owners of the dog of any breed I mean same could be said for staffs, labs, GSDS, and to be fair I dont know any other rescue that does this, there may be some but never heard of any.
I would say if the owners trust us to rehome their dog and assess and look after it then thats what we have to do. I mean what if we contacted the breeders and they took dog back didnt spey they would just flog it on again which isnty I presume what the owners would want.

Quick googlie search

http://www.chesapeakebayretrieverclub.co.uk/rescue.html

They might be able to help find a home thats got more knowledge in the breed, got a feeling that its on Ireland looking at the link, but they might know of another rescue or potential homes in England/Scotland/wales.

She can't post pictures cos a) it's someone else's dog, and b) they don't want the dog etc being identified by the person the owner is trying to get away from

(Sarah27, please correct me if I'm wrong!)
Arh right thanks again for that as I too thought it was strange that someone could not post pics of foster dogs and 'advertise' as to how they are coming on and what sort of home would suit them.

Does sound a great project to be involved in.

if all goes well with the visit and they feel he is the right dog for them, how long will it be before they can take him home?

A few times with the NAWT in Cornwall we went to a breed rescue. Only when it was a specialised breed where the breed club would likely have a waiting list. They did not worry with the more popular or common breeds.

I am not sure they do anymore
