I do love the idea of rescuing a mutt and will do it myself one day.

A beardie X would be adorable!!

He is a very scruffy mutt and loopy.
So scruffy he's cute.
He would need lots of work....like starting from scratch really.
I have a couple of concerns I need to raise (like he's due to be neutered on Monday and I'm not sure that would be best for him if we take him on...would rather wait.) That could be the real thing that swings it, as petty as it may seem.....I've just seen too many dogs get ill and stressed when neutered at that age and he's gone through enough of late...he's also mid way through puppy vaccs.

It sounds like you already know he's not the one.

Keep the search going and you'll just find him, I'm sure of it.

No, not at all. Infact he's as close as we're going to get to ideal in terms of a general rescue centre. We need a dog thats good with kids and dogs, neither of those two factors are flexible and he is. We would like a youngster so there is less 'baggage' to worry about....we were looking at and talking about beardies last week.

I am concerend though yes, as this could be a 15 year commitment and i won't take him on knowing he could go back, if he comes here he stays...
My concern is that he has just been given up (stress) he is mid puppy vacs (stress again) he could be rehomed within the week (more stress) and they are neutering on Monday...an incredible amount of stress. IME when dogs of that age are neutered their hormones are all over the place for a month and take 3 months to properly settle. In that time they can become a little anxious and wary, even of things they were well socialised with. This young chap has had no real socialisation so that could make his life more difficult. His immune system has also taken a battering with jabs and op so it is likely he will pick up a bug...which my two don't need to catch...
The neutering is just a step too far for him at the moment...IMO...and I'm not sure I am happy to take him on if it goes ahead as it will make his needs more complex. Not sure if I'm explaining myself properly..

if he needs lots of work, like starting from scratch, well, you got your puppy anyway and he's great with kids

Rescue, every time - but that's me.

I just think it would be better if he was neutered 6 weeks down the line when things have settled for him...

Can you not explain that and promise to do just that at a later date?
