peripheral neuropathy!? any one heard or had a dog with it!?

Well sybils results came back, her cushings was borderline so she wa sretested doing the high Dex test and it came back unusually normal, they think this is due to the galstop, so she has to be retested to be sure. All the other thyroid ones etc came back normal.

They say she has a peripheal nueropathy, but they dont know why!? and we are now at a loss!!! ive never heard of it before.

Its only one leg that is affected, her right hind which is quite pararlysed! shes going swimming twice a week and boy does she love it.. she goes in and shes off!!!!! have seen homeopathic vet and had one lot of accupuncture (which hasnt helped but its nly the first time!) and has physio this week.

Lady at teh hydro reacons i should she a osteopath/chiropractor. as when you touch her even ever so slightly between her shoulders it hurts!! you touch it and her muscles just flinch continuously!! I asked at beginning if it could be a trapped nerve and i got told no!!

thing is this all started one afternoon just like that, walked out of kitchen lame!!!!!

shes really happy at mo and not in a rush to put her to sleep. got lots of hydro etc booked.

anyone any ideas on theneuroapthy!? or even trapped nerves?!!

i just know the vets are missing something!!!

If you google search "peripheral neuropathy" + dog (or dogs) you will find heaps of information.

Good wishes, I hope the hydrotherapy is a help for Sybil.

That's odd. My search has pulled up 286,000 references. :smt017

Are you sure you didn't make a typo? One misplaced letter can throw out the whole seach.

Hi Suzanne regarding PN, as I explained before it is a term used to denote the result of a condition not the condition itself. The same term applies in humans although the causes may differ, it may be easier to understanding the condition viewed from a human perspective...
''Peripheral Neuropathy is not a specific disease but rather a manifestation of many conditions that cause damage to the peripheral nerves. There are believed to be in excess of one hundred different causes of peripheral neuropathy''
Although the site below is human not veterinary, I think it defines the condition well and may give you some food for thought

....and here is a veterinary link..paragraph 6 in particular...here is part of it which I think may be applicable to you ..
By contrast,
traumatic neuropathy (avulsion, transections from bone fracture or other
injury, injection neuropathy, lymphosarcoma of nerve roots or vertebrae often
affect nerves of only one limb, or of a portion of the limb. When diffuse or
multifocal peripheral nerve disease is present, inflammatory disease
(neosporum caninum, distemper, fungal disease, “allergic” neuropathy) or
diffuse neoplasia (lymphoma, malignant histiocytosis) may be more likely than
the differentials above, although differential diagnoses may include all of
the above.
