Jazz & George ~ Lovely Greyhound Pair Need Home Together
JAZZ & GEORGE
**UPDATED: AUGUST 2012**
This delightful duo is Jazz and George, both ex-racing greyhounds from Ireland. Jazz is the lovely black lad who is 7yrs old and George is the beautiful brindle boy who is now 6. Jazz and George were adopted together about 4 years ago, but have sadly now come back to us through no fault of their own. We are looking to get these two beautiful boys settled into a new forever home sooner rather than later, so that they can get over this huge upheaval and move on to happier times.
~ Home For Two ~
Jazz and George complement each other beautifully. They love each other’s company too, so we really do want to see them homed together if possible. Adopting two dogs might sound like a big step, but in many situations having two dogs is easier than one – they keep each other company when left and one will help the other settle in and adjust to their new family. And let’s not forget that you will be rewarded with double the love!
~ Personalities ~
Jazz and George are both lovely boys, but in different ways. George is the big social butterfly, always eager to meet new people, make new canine friends and be out and about exploring the world. He is super friendly and affectionate, but not in an over-the-top, bouncy way. He remains very mannerly and is well trained, except when he sees a rabbit in the distance!
Jazz is the more reserved boy, happy to let George do the introductions while he gets an idea of the situation before approaching to say hi. He is not outright shy or nervous; he just likes to assess the situation from a distance for a minute before joining in. Once he knows you, Jazz is beautifully affectionate and loving, especially to ‘his’ humans, he’s just not quite the socialite that George is.
Considering all the recent upheaval they have been through, both dogs are really super boys, very happy-go-lucky and undemanding. They would be two great dogs for a slightly older couple as they don’t require the same activity and exercise as a younger 2 year old dog. If they have a bit of excess run in them, they can happily play together and tire themselves out. They would also be candidates for a home with full time workers, as they can keep each other company when left and are happy enough to doze away provided they had a walk in the morning before being left.
~ In the Home ~
Both hounds have spent the last 4 years in a home so are very well adjusted and happy in a house. They are not destructive and will just snooze away when left once they are settled in their new home. They are quiet through the night and are housetrained, though they might have one or two indoor accidents when they first move into the new house due to the stresses involved. In general these boys are very easy to keep contented as they don’t demand much from you – just some love, yummy food and a soft bed and they’re happy as can be. Both dogs LOVE their food, and are attentive when given direction. In return you will be rewarded with double the love of two big sloppy boys – they live to give cuddles and curl up with you in the evening.
~ Other Animals ~
Jazz and George are in general good with other dogs, though sometimes Jazz can get a bit nervous if he feels crowded by other dogs. Again it is George that is the dog savvy, social boy who loves everyone, and Jazz prefers to watch interactions happen for a bit before joining in. So if met with a very in-your-face type of dog, he might feel a bit defensive and have a grumble.
In general though these boys are very well behaved when out and are a joy to take out. They walk very well on the lead and keep to heel until they see a cat, rabbit or deer, then George especially can become quite strong on the lead. This behaviour can improve with calm but steady work on redirecting his attention to you, he would just need a bit of patience and repetition. Jazz and George love the car and enjoy going for trips together.
~ Out and About ~
Like most greyhounds, these lads are true couch potatoes and will not need a huge amount of exercise. They will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch their legs offlead in a secure area once or twice a week. Jazz and George are great dogs to take out and walk with. As already mentioned, they walk to heel and don’t pull unless they see a small furry critter or deer in the distance. They are very good at meeting other people and are calm and mannered in busy or crowded situations.
~ Greyhounds as Pets ~
In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. Greyhounds also don’t shed as much as other more popular dog breeds and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers.
