Arghhhh this limits my choice then. Let me see, no pastoral, working or toy Would definitely have to be a Borzois then (Eunice's boys have inspired me)

What a great question / thread !

I have four and a half Pastoral dogs, [ collies and a Lurcher ], so if every Pastoral breed were out I would probably lean mostly toward a Standard Poodle.
Extremely intelligent and courageous dogs, when they are allowed to show and use their brain power that is, when not kept as an accessory / lap dog
Clip would be a neat tidy close clip all over, he or she would not have/need a traditional Working nor Show cut

Other breeds for very strong consideration would be :

Borzois, I love their supreme nobility of character as well as appearance,
Pharoah Hounds, lovely nature and athleticism,
Dobermans, intelligent, keen, usually intensely loyal and playful too.

If I could only choose between small breeds it would have to be, without question, an Affenpinscher - lovely daft looking little muppets, so much character and very bright too, loyal and confident, wonderful little dogs

*Yes Lurchers are Sight Hounds and I do have Sight Hounds in my list but Lurchers are not formally recognised so as he is technically a crossbreed for the purposes of this thread I claim the right to still consider dogs from the Hound group

Great question/thread........ I think i'd either go back to a Dobe or (well maybe and) I'd have a Parsons Jack Russell. that's all your fault Janet!!!!!!! you keep promising that Tobes will visit.. we sit at the ferry port each weekend and he never shows up!!!!!

Ooo I have two pedigree dogs that are both in the 'Working Group' a Dogue De Bordeaux & a Bullmastiff.

If I were to chose another breed it would probably be something out the 'Hound' group such as a Bloodhound or a Rhodesian Ridgeback

I'd have a dachshund as my friends Dacs all think they are big GSDs anyway. Either that or a heinz from rescue.

I have a Cavalier and not much room for a bigger dog. So, as mini Schnauzers are Utility, they would be my first choice. I do love Beagles though and if I could have a bigger dog then - a Dalmation or a Weimaraner.

We have a Cavalier (Toy) and Golden Retrievers (Gundog). I think I would choose an Australian Shepherd (Pastoral), a Cairn Terrier (Terrier!) or a Dachshund (Hound).
