Breed identification

A new DNA test for breed identifcation has just been launched -

http://www.whatsmydog.com/

This has a much longer list of breeds than the previous one at MMI Genomics. This new one has 130 breeds -

http://www.whatsmydog.com/breedlist.aspx

Interestingly, the company Mars Veterinary, is part of the Mars group which also owns Waltham Pet Nutrition (Pedigree Petfoods) who requested DNA samples from British dog owners/breeders two or three years ago, here in the UK. I don't remember reading anything about these contributing to research that would result in DNA tests based in USA labs though.

Maybe I've got this wrong and that was for something totally different

Wow, whatever will they come up with next?

I suppose it must have serious uses but wonder if people that can afford whatever it costs to test will do so just out of curiosity.

I don't know about this company, but the test previously released by MMI costs $50 USdollars, or about 25 GBPounds. I want to do it, just for fun!

Hey, that's not a bad price at all! And much cheaper than Optigen charge for their disease gene testing.
