Endoscopy for my dog (Updated post 6)

Hi
After few months of vomiting, diarrhoea/blood etc - vet is taking the endoscopy route to ascertain what is his problem.

As it could be IBD, need to have a diagnosis for treatment.
Anyone had this done? (dog wise)

Also what was cost?

I had a dog undergo this back in 2004 to ascertain if she had IBD ( which she did). If my memory serves me right it was about £1,100 which included her meds and an overnight stay at a referral clinic.

Once her condition settled down I went on to manage her with only a change in protein source

Yes Milo had two of them doneat different times by the specialist. Cost will depend on whether a normal vet is doing it or a specialist.
Your vet should be able to give you a quote.
I'm glad you are going down this route, although expensive it may save you throwing money away on treatments that are not helping and work out cheaper in the long run.
Let us know how it all goes I am following your dogs case with interest.
I wish you all the best, having been what you are going through I know just how worrying it is.

i have been feeding him naturediet exclusively and he is so happy to eat it - this may have helped him a bit too. no dry food is the way forward i think too.

will update as things happen

Hi there borderbob.
My boy had an endoscopy done just last week. The only problem with going this route is that with the larger breeds (my boy's a GSD) they may not be able to get past the stomach and into the intestines to get an intestinal biopsy. This was the case with my boy but they managed to get 3 biopsies of the stomach which hopefully will prove to be helpful into diagnosing the problem. The other way they can go is by opening them up and getting full intestinal biopsies that way but this is a very invasive, last resort method. I have an appointment with the vet tomorrow to get all the results as he had skin biopsies done at the same time. As for the cost, I don't know yet I will let you know tomorrow.
I hope all goes well for you,
Ali.

Hi
My boy has ultrasound and endoscopy today, showed inflammation in small bowel and little in large bowel; a little on pancreas with a shadow of about 6 mm on spleen area.
So biopsies done now await results.
Vet still suggests IBD, but does want to rule out helicobacter pylori, spleen query etc.
fingers crossed

I'm glad you managed to get it done for him, at least now you will know what you are treating and the best way forward.
Did your vet do it or did you go to a specialist in the end?
Please let us know when you get the results. (((hugs))) to you and your boy, you really are doing all you can for him.
