What is his pedigree name? That might help give us all some clues. Corran sounds good and so does Affric.
The reason I called my dog Tyto was because it is generic for Owl which is part of his pedigree name. So that might help in naming your new shepherd. Which I am very jealous about having grown up with them and just love the breed.

my uncle had an awesome gsd called Lochinvar (lochy for short)

i lived in Nevis Close and all our street names are named similarly. Nevis would sound a bit odd maybe but it is 'Ben' Nevis

my best friend lived in 'Deveron' walk could go Dev for short??

There you go then Yogi Bear. Great name. Just to put here that I had a hairy gsd called wait... for it Humphrey. Quite suited him but he was called Humph for short. Picture please.
