Intestinal hurry

Hi guys,

My dog has been suffering from diarrhoea and vomiting since last Sunday. Now this is periodic, one day he is fine, passing well formed stools and the next he is very loose. He is not ill and still full of vigour. We are struggling t find a cause but, on advice we have been feeding him scrambled egg and rice. He doesn't seem to have a problem with this, but when he goes back on his regular feed - canagan, free run chicken - he seems to suffer again. He has been on this feed for about eight weeks without a problem until this week. This feed was recommended as bring good for joints as he suffers from bilateral hip dysplasia.
Sorry this is long winded but I am looking for advice on whether there might be an alternative feed we could give him. He us a fourteen month old English cocker, working strain.

Thanks in advance.

Do you think a check up at the vet to rule things out first might be worth it?

My boy has hip dysplasia in his left hip. He gets daily Glucosamine and chondroitin supplements. Helps a ton he "bunny hops" less and he fully flexes the left leg when he stretches now. Maybe your dog is allergic to chicken? Some dogs are and they can't really digest it.

Give Canagan a call as they would really like to hear from you if you are having problems with their product.

Always very helpful and interested in customer concerns

If he has been ok up to now why not try a different flavour instead of changing the brand?

Also are you reintroducing the canagan over a few days after he has been on the scrambled egg?

Thanks, he has had 12 sessions of hydrotherapy, which has worked a miracle. He has seen vet and they are happy he doesnt need further pharmacological treatment, but might need more hydrotherapy in the future, we give him seraquin and fish oil routinely as supplements. We just keep him as active as possible, with emphasis on his back end, encouraging jumping etc. Not that he needs much encouragement.

We have spoken to them by phone, they are not too troubled because he is not ill, yet if it continues beyond another week, or becomes more consistent then we will. Thanks.

Hi, we reintroduce the feed after solid stools, usually feed and rice then feed alone for next meal. The pattern seems to be that once he has had two regular feed meals he starts with the diarrhoea again. Nutritionally, we know eggs and rice can't be sustained for long.
But he is very chirpy. Not ailing at all and no pain.

Think will see vet this week. Just for reassurance.

Hello Ken how old is your dog, are you measuring the daily recommended amount of canagen and dividing it between meals per day.
Feeding too much food can cause diarrhoea .

Hi, thanks. Harvey is 14 months, he has a measured feed morning and evening, size and age specific, and we are very cautious re treats, keeping them to a minimum.

We have contacted canagan by email and will seek veterinary advice further. I find it strange that after two months he should suddenly suffer like this and wonder if there is something else we are missing.
