What do people know about Harringtons dog food?

I'm still doing my research into which food I will be feeding our new Jack Russell pup and I have chanced upon a complete dry food called Harringtons. Does anyone know anything about this brand? The ingredients look very good on first glance (no wheat, no additives) but it appears to be extremely good value if this is indeed the case at 3.03 pounds for 2kg from Tesco:

Ingredients (The Lamb & Rice version)

• Maize
• Lamb Meat Meal (min 14%)
• Rice (min 14%)
• Barley
• Meat Meal
• Fat
• Beet Pulp (min 4%)
• Digest
• Vitamins & Minerals
• Linseed
• With Kelp, Citrus, Yeast & Yucca
• Tocopherol rich extracts of
natural origin

Analysis:

• Protein 21%
• Oil 10%
• Fibre 3%
• Ash 8.5%
• Vitamin A 12,000iu/kg
• Vitamin D3 1200iu/kg
• Vitamin E (alpha tocopherol) 150mg/kg
• Copper (cupric sulphate) 15mg/kg
• Sodium 0.3%

They say that their food can be fed from 8 weeks - they do not appear to have a puppy food in their limited range. I would have thought that the protein content at 21% was too low for puppy food?

What are people's thoughts and experiences about this food?

Terri

I fed as a mixer with naturediet/wainwrights wet

I feed this to my dogs and they do well on it. There's no rubbish in it and it's very good value.

My dogs have been eating it as a mixer for ages, and are doing well on it, I buy the really large bag and think its very good value.

This is really encouraging to hear - I think I will have to bear this food in mind for when Millie is a bit older. It just goes to show that you really do have to read every ingredients list - I was quite surprised to learn that some of the so-called premium brands contain bulk fillers like wheat . . . and they can cost £45 for 15kg!

Does anyone know of a similar good value but good quality food that DOES include a puppy version?

Wainwrights is a good food and Skinners they both do puppy foods.
Skinners is listed for working dogs so no VAT

I have used Harringtons once no problems with it but poos were a little larger than normal which would suggest there is some filler in there somewhere.

Looking at the ingredients list again I am now wondering where the unspecified 'meat meal' comes from in each variety - this is in addition to the named meat meal i.e. lamb or turkey depending on flavour. I hope this is not something unpleasant - I have sent Harringtons an email to this effect and I will put a reply on this thread when I hear back from them in due course.
