Poodle saves life of owner

A miniature poodle raised the alarm when her elderly owner fell down the stairs at her Ontario home.

Jean Pitts, 83, suffered broken ribs in the fall at her London house. Three-year-old Andriette then came to the rescue and ran barking into the street to get help.

She attracted the attention of a passer by who called an ambulance.

Jean, recovering in hospital, said: "She really saved the day. Andriette is such a good girl."

Passer-by Lori Vanden Boomen said: "The little dog came up and was barking like crazy at us and then she ran away. Then she came back, still barking and then she ran away again.

"Finally, I realised something was wrong, so I said to the two-year-old I was with that we should look to see where the doggy was going."

They followed the dog to Jean's house, then called an ambulance, reports the London Free Press.

"That little dog is a hero," added Lori. "She deserves a hero's award."

Andriette is being looked after by Jean's friends while her owner recovers.
