Looks are the first thing that attracted me to me breed (or any dog really) I love the look of the Boxer, then the more serious part takes place, whether temperament and breed traits will suit my lifestyle.

Well it was the look of the setter and the personality... They have downsides, I think most dogs do, I mean their recall is rubbish, they slobber, they're hairy, they're daft, they're very disobedient and if they want to do something they will if not they won't.... but they are so loving, gentle and beautiful... I could not envisage life without one, my big hairy beautiful, dopes

Oh the Pointer, was also looks and personality, I didn't want a dog so in your face as the setter, but still loving and gentle and Codee fits in perfectly, looks and brains!!

For us it was definitely looks.
I love big dogs, so that was number 1 in my search. My husband was determined we were getting a westie, and the only big dog he would agree to was a wolfy looking dog. I initially thought "yey I can get a husky", but after reading about them, and that you couldn't let them off lead, I was really put off. I thought of getting a husky cross and that's how I came about finding the NI.

When I seen a NI x in my area I went to see the litter and we picked our pup.

I had never seen or heard of a Bullmastiff until my tutor at college rescued one, and brought him in.
From the moment I met him, I was hooked!

So looks then temprement!

It started with looks but it took 3 years of research before we got a Ridgeback. Everything about them just seemed to be right for us even the their cons seemed to fit in with us as a family.
I cant see us ever being without one

Well when I was 6 & our lurcher died young, Dad said if the dog is to lookafter the children when they are out it needs ro be big & look fit for the job, our news agent had a litter of Alsatians as they were then called. We bought one & went to learn how to handle it to the BAA, (now the BAGSD) & have never considered another breed since even my rescues are GSDs so I don't think it was any particular thing just need & fate.

I honestly think Spotty chose me to rescue her from the dreadful situation she was in at my old neighbours.

She needed a home, and fast. Was as simple as that.
I've always loved all dogs, but she carved out the special place that russells have in mine.

I suppose we chose Yorkshire Terriers based on their looks, because they're small! And cute . But temperament did come into it as we were originally going to look at Westies but heard some horror stories about their tolerance.
