how can i stop my staffy biting my feet?

hi everyone

i have a 9 mth old staffy girl who has developed the rather annoying habit of biting at my feet when she gets excited. it often happens when we are walking and she meets people and then she will start to nip and bite at my shoes. she also does it when i have let her into the house when i have been out - generally whenever she gets excited about something. some people have said she will grow out of it but i was wondering if it could be a dominance issue? any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Mandy

I wouldn't wait till she grows out of it... It looks like it's a self reinforcing behaviour... Can you ask her to do something else, like sit, just before she bites at your feet?

hi lene
thanks for the reply. i will give that a go - i may have to try distracting her also by offering her a treat to make her sit. she tends to be hard to stop once she gets into the biting.
