You cannot do better than follow SB's advice. I get through life doing much the same. When I was a single parent working hard and successfully bringing up kids I had to put up with people 'telling me how I should do' everything. I'd react in a way that had them thinking 'DON'T SAY ANYTHING TO HER - SHE'S MAD!'

Since I've matured into an 'off the wall' older single with a dog, living in a foreign country 3km away from the UK I've got even worse lol! People tend to give you a wide berth if they think you are a bit 'crazy'. I like that! Especially since I am an avid animal lover and dog owner in a country where most don't care for animals and don't care for dogs in particular.

I ain't in the least bit interested in my popularity rating - life's too short to spend enough time with the people you love without wasting ANY time on those you don't!

Derren Brown suggests a very similar technique, such as carrying on a completely unconnected conversation as that confuses people.
So e.g they talk about your hairless dog, you take about strawberries, as if they were also having that conversation.

Mind you as you seemed to have met the local less balanced individual he may not respond to either SBs technique, nor Derren Brown's if he does not react normally himself!

Are you sure he wasn't just peeved that your dog beat his, or his friend's/wife's/family member etc? I AM scraping the barrel for a logical explanation here.....

I have had the nasty comments as well a I have Chinese Cresteds. You always get the mange one and "That dog should be takin to a Vet" ones lol
