I would love it if my friend's GSD that has won several BIS last year would win, but with teh controversy over the breed I cannot see it happening unfortunately.

If a dog does well at other shows ,do judges automaticlly take exrtra notice of it?

I have a friend showing an English Setter bitch........

Judges will pick the dog that most resembles THEIR interpretation of what the KC Breed Standard says.

Bear in mind, that to get to compete for BIS, the dog must:

Win a CC in the breed ring
Be judged BoB
Win the Group
Before it gets to the final Day

The judge who awards BIS has no influence on what comes his or her way!
