Alternative flea repellents??

Hi,
I am currently using a spot on flea repellent,
I have heard there are other ways to prevent fleas on dogs,
I have heard garlic, but then I have read garlic can be dangerous to dogs?!?

Does anyone use alternatives? and do they work??

Hi there, I use garlic and (touching wood) haven't had a problem of fleas for years. Do be very careful though, too much can be dangerous

I give one clove (crushed in the food) to each of mine once a week now (started with less, but every day) BUT they are both alot bigger than your Staffy, so maybe try with a quarter of a clove?

I use garlic too... they get 1 clove each twice a week..

I also use a herbal liquid called DynaMite.. I water it down and use it as a spray when they are being brushed..

I'm using Neem oil and shampoo on Lula's demodex mange (along with conventional treatment). The Neem is an Indian tree whose products have been used in ayurvedic medicine for thousands of years for skin problems and insect infestations. Wikipedia here has more info. It seems to helping the mange and is supposed to be great at preventing and resolving flea problems.

We use frontline, but also wash Bongo's bed often (weekly) and put a couple of drops of lavender oil on it when it comes out of the wash. Smells lovely and frightens the little beasties away. I'm a big fan of tea-tree oil too.

I use garlic for flea prevention & touch wood we have never had fleas as yet, I just buy normal garlic puree in a tube & put a small pea sized blob on their evening meal every evening. Garlic is fine in small/moderate amounts.
