Hi Michelle, because we love them so and fear to lose them the temptation is always there to hold onto our beloved dogs .

The brave thing to do when they are in pain is to let them go...(hug)

Warm loving thought going to you and your beautiful Femka... xx

So terribly sorry to hear this news. I had hoped for the best but all cases are different. If it's degenerative it's not going to get any easier for her or for you. For what it's worth I think you have made the right decision. You have given her a couple of great years. Now you have to stay strong for your girl. Will be thinking of you over the next few days.

I knew it was you Michelle, I had just read something by Eunice, sorry for the misunderstanding. It must be really hard for you right now.

This is the bravest and most selfless act that we, as dog owners, have to make and I commend you for making this decision for your girl whilst still giving her some dignity.

My thoughts will be with you on Monday xxxx

Oh, Michelle, I'm so sorry to hear the very sad news about Femka. No matter how hard the decision is, you will know when you have to make it, to allow Femka to leave and find peace with some dignity. Bigs hugs to you and yours - most of us on here have been through what you are suffering at the moment - some of us more recently than others - so we feel your pain xox

Oh I am so very sorry to hear this about Femka. It is an extremely hard decision to make but the best one for her if she is suffering. My thoughts with you and yours and will be thinking of you on Monday.

Bigs hugs to Femka and doggy kisses from Loki as well.

Take care and you are doing the right thing.

Rose and Loki xx

Michelle I don't think we've really "spoken" before but I wanted to say how very sorry I am about Femka.

Words are never enough, but be comforted in that so many of us know what you are going through.

Do you know this poem? I hope you find it comforting

And if it should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep -
Then you must do what must be done
For this, the last battle, can't be won.
You will be sad - I understand,
Don't let grief then stay your hand.
For this day, more than all the rest,
Your love and friendship stand the test.
We've had so many happy years
What is to come can hold no fears.
You'd not want to suffer, so,
When the time comes, please let me go.
Take me where my needs they'll tend.
Only stay with me until the end
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time, you too will see
It is a kindness you do to me,
Although my tail its last has moved,
From pain and suffering I've been saved.
Don't grieve that it should be you
Who has to decide this thing to do
We've been so close - we two these years,
Don't let your heart hold any tears.

Anon.
