Gun shy

Hi all'
I know what the saying means but what is the cause of a working gundog/breed to be gunshy
Is it inhereited from the breeding lines or is it just one of those things?
Sal

I think it is just one of those things. One of my mates has a retriever who plays with Bob one day he was out shoting when we seen him I put Bob on the lead as he was working his dog, he fired his gun and his dog started cowering but Bob did'nt move.He said the dog came from a famiely of working gundogs

I would hope a gunshy working dog was never bred from! BAD BAD BAD! Its just some dogs Sal, same as being scared of thunder, fireworks etc.. some dogs dont like them and cant deal with the noise.
Dawn.
