Staff x Am staff (is an American SBT the same as a Staffordshire Bull terrier?)

i dont know if this is the right place for this but was just wondering what ppl thought.

a friend and i used to have this argument, he reckoned that if a staff and Am staff were crossed it would still be KC reg as a staffordshire bull terrier as they're practically the same breed, i however didnt think this was the case and they would still be classed as diff breeds?

is this the case?

They couldnt be KC registered as the Amstaff is not able to be registered by the KC

Plus if any old two KC breeds could be bred and registered we'd have hundreds of KC mongrels

Sadly they are two distinctly different breeds, although decades back sharing the same gene pool, the cross of the two would never be legally registered with the KC. I have seen Staffords very similiar to the Am Staff, but never the opposite way round.

i didnt think it would be, this friend had a dog that was kc registered and claimed its sire was an Am staff, which i dont think it was, it was a great looking dog one of the best staffs iv seen, although it was quite big, i think at the time it just sounded more glamorous to say it was an amstaff, ill post pics l8r and yous can maybe give me your opinions on it, pls?

Unless it was an American Stafford (ie a stafford bred in America and not an Amstaff)

he just used to say it was an am staff, he said that because the dog was bigger than the average staff but i just think it was a big dog rather than anythin else, it was a gorgeous dog though, ill put pics on tomorrow.

It was bred as the show variety of The American Pit Bull terrier, the standard is similiar to The Staffordshire bull terrier the height being two inches higher.
