Brinnie ~ Fabulous Girl Full of Potential - 2yo Brindle Greyhound

BRINNIE

**UPDATED: FEBRUARY 2013**

Location: Kennels in Norfolk, UK. Brinnie would love a foster home while she waits for her forever home.
Key Points:

Beautiful Brinnie is a 2 year old greyhound girl who wasn’t fast enough for the track. She is now looking for a forever family to call her own. Brinnie is a really stunning girl; photos don’t do her justice at all! She has a bright brindle coat with tiny white flecks running through it, and an unusually marked black muzzle. She really is a head-turner!

~ Personality ~
Generally:
Brinnie is packed full of character and is a real joy to be with. She lives to learn, to explore and see the world around her. She has an active mind that needs to be given activities to do or she’ll come up with ideas of her own. Brinnie has huge potential to excel at something that requires speed and brains, for example agility. She takes direction really well and is quick to pick up new things. This girl is definitely a dog that can excel as high as her owner – if you put the time in to her you will definitely get the reward back.

Brinnie loves everyone around her and assumes everyone loves her back! She is super friendly and always ready for a cuddle. A really fantastic girl who would be great for teenagers or kids over the age of 8 because she is bursting to learn new things and play games.

~ In the Home ~
Generally:
Brinnie has been in a foster home in Ireland for several weeks, though is currently in kennels again now that she’s come across to the UK. She is a very inquisitive girl but picks up on the house rules and will listen to direction. She may need a bit of patience for the first few days as she pokes her nose into everything, but once accepted as ‘uninteresting’ she leaves things alone. She is a bit nervous on laminate flooring and needs more practice walking on it to feel more secure. She really loves her grub and is a lovely little cuddlebum on the sofa in the evenings.

Brinnie shared her foster home with several other dogs and got on splendidly with them all. She is still very much a puppy in behaviour and non-confrontational. She LOVES to run and LOVES to play, something which can get a bit rough if allowed to progress. She accepts a telling off from another dog very well though, and really is a super girl.

~ Other Animals ~
Generally:
As mentioned, Brinnie is very good with other dogs, especially those that like a bit of rough n tumble. She shared her foster home with an ever-changing array of dogs including Dobermans, German Shepherds, Labradors and greyhounds and got on with them all. She has not spent a lot of time around very small dogs, but is believed to be small dog friendly. We will test this more thoroughly shortly. Though there is no malice at all in her, Brinnie can get boisterous when playing ‘tag’ and so care may be needed around very small or delicate dogs as she may accidently hurt them.

Brinnie shared her foster home with a hamster and, after a few days of extreme interest, soon got bored and largely ignored the little guy thereafter. She has not been tested with cats yet but could potentially be cat friendly.

~ Out and About ~
Generally:
Brinnie is an active girl who ideally needs a hard burst of speed before a training session to calm her down. Even if it’s just a 2 minute zoom, she is far more receptive and can hold attention for longer after she’s gotten that initial burst out of her system. She does need a bit of work on walking to heel, again something best worked on after she’s drained some energy first. Though she may appear as a total livewire at first, she does tire quickly and is very happy to become a sofa-bug in the evenings after her exercise.

Brinnie has good recall when offlead, but she will still need some time building a bond with her new owners before she can be let offlead in any overly large or unenclosed space. Once this has been worked on, Brinnie is suitable to be let offlead in safe areas away from public roads, but be aware that being a greyhound she will have the instinct to chase anything small and furry!

~ Where Am I? ~
Brinnie is currently being kennelled in Norfolk, UK. She can be homed anywhere in the UK provided we have a homechecker available, but please note that you will be required to travel to us in Norfolk to meet her.

~ Want To Adopt Me? ~
Brinnie is vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. She will be neutered before going to her new home. This girl would greatly benefit from being in a foster home, and Kerry Greyhounds UK is always in desperate need of new fosterers. It is such a rewarding experience, and costs are covered by the rescue.

If you are interested in adopting or fostering Brinnie, you can contact me (Tam) via email: tam@kerrygreyhounds.co.uk, or speak directly to Bronwen by phoning: 075 000 62648. Emails are usually replied to within 24 hrs.

There are application forms for both adopting and fostering a Kerry Greyhound, and we will ask you to fill the relevant one in as the first step in the adoption/fostering process. To speed up this process, we recommend you do this before emailing/calling. You can find the forms, as well as further information on our homing & fostering procedures, on either the Adoption Page or Fostering Page .

Thank you.
Tam
KGUK Homing Volunteer

~~ KERRY GREYHOUNDS UK ~~

Kerry Greyhounds UK is a voluntary organisation based in Norfolk, England. It focuses on rehoming unwanted Irish greyhounds and lurchers, as huge numbers are bred in Ireland each year and homes are few and far between. KGUK operates through a network of volunteers spread over Ireland and the UK. We can look after approximately 30 dogs at any one time in both kennels and foster homes.

Each dog is neutered, vaccinated, & microchipped before being adopted (unless stated otherwise).

We assess the suitability of all home offers, and we have homed greyhounds in all corners of the UK. If interested in one of our hounds, please feel free to contact us.
