Training, to do.or not to do

do you feel its,easyer to train a dog to do a task,or train a dog not to do something.do you have any examples to share

I would say it is easier to teach a dog to do something rather than not do something

Because to NOT do something means they already know how to do what you dont want and you are having to retrain
- for example teaching a dog NOT to pull on the lead when they already pull on the lead

I find it easier to teach an alternative behaviour. So for a dog that jumps up to greet people, you teach him to sit in front of the new person. It isn`t hard, and the dog is rewarded.

hey smokey,i feel the same way,its sitiational,i have a pup that requiered less traing than my other three.in that respect i found it easyer to train on spacific things that my pack is good at...example..recall, the pup simply comes with the pack, more difficult if he is the only dog i need to stay,while the others come to me.
