Good links SB. I would recommend taking the time to read them.

I would certainly not go ahead and alpha roll my dog.

MY dog wouldn't be in that position....... And I have never Alpha rolled any of my dogs!!! Haven't needed to or wanted to!!!
I have said this several times and I say again I am not advocating alpha roll and I know they are totally not working and are dangerous to preform on older dogs . But you did not answer my question. And I repeat:.Here is a scenario: You have cane corso x pressa mix about 80-100kg by nature aggressive dog trying to attack another dog or child.
Question: What kind of a positive reinforcement are you going to pull out of you positive only arsenal? Treat? Kind word? Pet on the head?
Please elaborate.

hmmmm...maybe (hopefully) alpha roll is being misinterpreted

all my pups when young (weeks old)get used to me being able to touch them everywhere,by playing and positively reinforcing as i go,including rolling them on to their back when they are being silly/playing,or when attached to a toy...and even blowing raspberries on their tums .....still do

well i wont alpha roll my pup i dont think it would work anyway (being that she is very persistant). what do you guys think about a "time out" in a crate...sounds to me like it would make the crate a bad experience...also what would be an example of a "humane" negative reinforcement?

Everything else aside, this is plain wrong advice, sorry.
The reason being that from your description, the dog is prevented from chewing the trouser leg, given a chew toy and then VERBALLY PUNISHED (for what - accepting the chew toy??).

Sorry, but this advice is simply confusing, bad dog training and likely to cause future problems.

and if they divert their chewing behavior to your hand...etc you need to flip them on their backs and hold them down in a dominant behavior until they STOP MOVING (ie: fighting back),....
Again, simply not needed. Owners have done this and either scared their dog or had the dog turn on them when it is old enough to do so, and it often ends up in tears - ie with the poor dog being put down.

The use of harsh methods tends to create aggressive dogs - why do it, then?

Of course a biscuit won't get a dog away from an attack. So what you do is anything you have to in those particular circumstances. Surely that is clear?

However, good socialisation, calm sensible puppy classes, reward methods etc tend to produce a well rounded, sociliased dog who does not even consider attacking a child

A very helpful thing would be to get a copy of Dr Ian Dunbar's "Before and After you get your puppy" and also take a visit to DogStarDaily which is so fab - loads and loads of free information!

Time out can work, but has to be used very very carefully, so I'd get advice from a reward based trainer first to be honest. Reading the above book will be so very useul. Also anything about puppies by Gwen Bailey. Her Puppyschool stuff is good

Also do read the links re. Deesdogs etc you've been given, plus this one:
http://www.apdt.co.uk/dog_training_tips.asp loads of stuff on there

My dog had the nickname "mad bitey puppy" and she now has the most wonderful bite inhibition, which is what you are in essence aiming for. Not just to stop, but to educate ...

But how do you know it was not intended to be an alpha roll? Clearly the owner intended to "dominate" his puppy by physically controlling it until it submitted - he went too far.

A dog trainer did this to a young GSD. After a long time the dog submitted, but by then it was ill and suffering from basically lack of air. It died.

It is based around this idea of physical domination - don't kid yourself, it is all linked!
