Can I clip my dog? Newffie x GSD

i have a Newfoundland X German Shepherd
although she is 3/4 Shepherd she has a Newffie coat
which is a nightmare to groom, so when the weather gets warmer i was wondering if it would be ok to clip her?

I would say No, there coat helps them keep cool in the summer aswell as warm in the winter if you clip it have a higher risk of sun stroke. Hope this is the correct info

I agree, your best bet is to invest in a blaster to help release the undercoat and then rake it out , or take her to a groomers, but specify you do not want her clipped. The coat will grow back a different texture and is often denser with doesn't allow the air to cool the skin. Clipping a double coated breed is not recommended.

totally agree with all would not clip. A blaster is a high velocity dryer which can be variable speed and temperature dependent on the model you purchase. The nozzle should be placed on the skin for maximum effect and they can also be used before the bath to loosen the undercoat. However your dog needs to be socialised to blasters as they tend to be very loud and may frighten the dog. Hope this helps.

a good blast will make a world of difference. i clip the feet off and clean out the toes as this helps them to cool off faster as the feet sweat. a maternity type clip can help also as dogs cool themselves down by wetting belly or splaying out on a cold surface but this should only be in the height of summer, usually about april lol everyone is right when they say that coat protects them from ALL elements
