Normally I would agree with you, but in fact there are a couple of things in this that do comfort me...
firstly they have an elderly dog. I know its no guarantee, but this indicates that they are capable of keeping a dog for life and that they do at least have some experience of dog ownership.
secondly they seem to be considering the older dog - realising that he might need some 'time out' from the pups.
All in all, I'd give this one the benefit of the doubt unless I heard something further to cause concern.
(and yes, if I was ever to get a pup (unlikely) I'd seriously consider Christmas....my office is closed so I definitely won't have to work, its just me & my OH and we don't have lots of people around. Mind you, on the downside, its pretty cold to be going out all the time waiting for pup to pee
