OMG the stupidest people I've ever seen!

Video: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-18012571

Irish police are investigating a possible illegal horse race near Blarney, County Cork.

Around 60 to 70 spectators in a number of cars and vans were seen following harness racers on the main Cork to Mallow road on 5 May.

A video of the race, which is associated with the traveller community, has been uploaded to social network sites.

One man was arrested under the public order act and later released.

The BBC's Ireland correspondent Mark Simpson reports.

It beggars belief.

If they want to risk their own lives go ahead but not that of innocent drivers and those beautiful animals.

OMG, what idiots! Those poor ponies! That's disgusting, it looked at one point like the police were trying to physically push the pony off the road with the car!

The owners need sorted out! Imagine putting the ponies, themselves and others at risk like that!

Exactly my thoughts guys. Those beautiful animals - imagine if there was a head on collision with that lorry (actually, don't imagine it!)

I wish you could shoot people sometimes. Those police were total idiots driving at the horses. Poor creatures must have been terrified.

Words fail me, just proves what idiots there are and of course the Police will never prove it was a race and seeing who the two are they will never come to court. Makes me so mad.

It made me feel sick to watch it, a sort of extreme version of what they do with these ponies at the horse fairs around this country and I absolutely hate it.

Apart from anything else, just how long will it be before those lovely ponies' legs and/or feet are ruined by all that high speed pounding on tarmac.

Some of the so called horse loving Irish, and the English travellers, clearly never have a thought in their heads for the welfare of their animals. (Our Jimmi is proof of that)

Its a common practice among gypsy communities. I absolutely love harness racing, trotting and pacing. Obviously under the correct conditions though!

It is lovely to watch as you say under the right conditions.

A few years ago we had a chap who use to trot his pony in harness round the field near our house near christmas he had bells on the harness. Lovely to watch and to hear.
