I voted 8 weeks ,but I think 6 weeks is ok as long as the pup is eating well and the new owners can cope with such a young pup

I have choosen eight weeks, i would not let any of mine go before this time, i take the bitch away slowly from five weeks then by six and a half weeks the bitch is not with them, then they can learn to cope with out her and learn how hard they can bite each other by eight weeks there ready to be own there own and are soicialised. i had my first staffy when she was five weeks old this was 11 years ago, she never liked other dogs and thought she was human and took a long time to get her out of mouthing. i would not pick up a pup now till it was eight weeks and would make the breeder keep it till then

I have chosen 10 weeks plus, as we have recently had a litter that was here til they were nearly 12 weeks old, I wanted the pups to be fully vaccinated before leaving, so that there was no solitary incubation period from leaving us to going into the big wide world, people have been on my waiting list for some time more than 12 months waiting for this litter, consequently they visited every week to form bonds with the pups before they were to leave, and all pups are totally settled in their new homes having real attachments with their new families, this also assisted me in choosing which pup I was to eventually keep, the reason I bred in the first place.

I think 8 weeks.
Although Teagan was 12 weeks when I got her, and I thought that was fine too, although she was a little big to carry to the vets! lol

ideally I would say 8 weeks but there again depending on circumstances. We had a staffy pup at 5 weeks as mum didn't want to know! and it cost me my tortoise (another story for another day )

I'm still wondering what to tick! Normally, I'd say 8 weeks, but then, I got my Kali at a day under 7 weeks old - the farmer was reasonably pleased to see him go, as he was bullying all the other pups (a year later, we met up with one of the litter, who submitted to Kali as soon as he saw him!).

Kali never seemed upset by leaving -when we took him away, he was far more interested in what was in the back of our van than in the fact he was going somewhere different! He was the first of his litter to leave.

Snorri was 10 weeks old when he left Mum, and was also the first of his litter to leave. On the farm, on of the sons did the dog-rearing, but between Kali's litter and Snorri's, the lad shot himself , so Snorri's litter were cared for only adequately, rather than well, so Snorri & Co were a bit behind where they should have been. When we started a proper puppy-feeding routine, he grew at a tremendous rate (about doubling in size in a week!).

Two months later, at the County Show, we met people who had taken on his brothers - they couldn't believe he was the same litter, because he was so big!

So, IMO, 7 weeks is probably the earliest, and 10 weeks is about the upper limit. By 10 weeks, many "bonds" are well-formed; much longer than that and some of the bonding ability may be lost. Depends on the dog, I suppose! :smt102
