I agree with Eunice, either way can be good or bad and it depends on the breeder, not the place the pups are raised, JMO.

I would always go for home bred and reccomened others to do so. I really feel it is the only way pups should be raised. Puppies should be exposed to the sights, sounds and smells of a home from birth and the process of socialisation and habitualisation takes longer if they are kept seperate from the home. They are less likely to hear phones ringing, washing machines, hoovers, door bells, shopping bags etc etc the list is endless!

Either can be good or bad. Personally I like my puppies kennel reared but brought into the house on several occasions to get used to all the sounds. When I had my last litter they were in the house for the first 3 weeks then out in the kennel even the pup I was keeping myself. I think if I'd tried rearing them in a cage in the house, 11 rampaging puppies at 7 weeks would have made me so neurotic it couldn't have done them any good. Bringing them in for short periods in two's & threes was much better for them & me.

I don't have a firm preference. My next GSD pup will have been raised in the house, and Flame was raised in the house until about 5-6 weeks and then went outdoors. All the collies have been raised outdoors in kennels or farm barns! I haven't had any shyness or fear of noises from any of the dogs. I agree with Archer, the breeder is more important than whether they are raised in or outdoors.

i'm pretty sure my dog was puppy farmed....around the local area i am in there are other bulldog owners i run into that ask where i got him, and say they got him from the same place....and they all seem to have the same skin problem, which makes me positive that they are over-breeding the parents and causing a consistant health concern in the offspring....but we got him at 9 weeks, and dogg daycares are quite popular here in germany, so he goes there mon - fri while my husband and i are at work, and absolutley loves it! he gets the care and attention he needs during the 10 hour days we work, and also lots of socialization too! sometimes he cant hardly wait to get out of the car when we arrive there....lol..

I agree that the most important think is the breeder themselves but i would want a pup that is raised in a house rather than a kennel simply for familiarity with people and household activities/appliances as that is where my pup would be coming to BUT some of our pedigrees (rather than our rescues) have come from families like that but the bitch is one that normally would live in a kennel if she didn't have puppies. Not sure if that makes a difference as long as she is a normal, sociable, happy dog.

ps i also think that it is easy to misunderstand "kennels". one of my friends immediately assumed it meant nothing more than a concrete pen outside but obviously it can mean a real luxury little doggy apartment too!!

Jed was home bred and Flynn was kennel bred. Both litters were very sociable and bright and neither dogs have social issues really with people or dogs.

I have no preference.

Generally I think my preference is for home bred.
However Dale was home bred while Chip came from a kennel and of the two Chip is the more relaxed with household noises, especially hoovers So I think you have to look at all the circumstances not just one factor.
