Goodbye Jelly :*(

This is a very hard obituary to write. Jelly was far too young, and sadly it's just one of those very unfortunate things. She reabsorbed a litter at 18 days, and developed a bulge in her side. This never really went away though it did go up and down in size a fair bit. She was tried on several different meds and nothing helped. Slowly, but surely, she started to lose use of one of her back legs. The last couple of days she got very bad with this, and lost use of both back legs, and stopped eating much. She was in an awful state - having no use of her back end at all - and we knew it was time to let her go, and the vet agreed that there was nothing else to be done. She was still so bright and sparky, and gave us kisses and licks :*( That was the hardest bit.

The vet did a Post Mortem and found that she was perfect inside, except for a very swollen bladder, which apparently can often go in hand with neurological problems. It was rather likely that she had spinal cancer or something similar. :*(

She was a very very special girl - one of my absolute favourites, I know we shouldn't have them, but there was somethign about this girl... her gorgoeus head and soulful eyes, her wonderful soft velvety coat... her licks... she was one of the lickiest rats I have ever owned, and a total credit to her breeders, Ed and Deb.

She was far too young, and somehow I feel I've failed her - though I know there's nothing more we could have done for her.

Run free beautiful, sweet Jelly baby, you were too good for this world.

Paul Weller - Broken Stones

Like pebbles on a beach
Kicked around, displaced by feet
Like broken stones - all trying to get home.
Like a losers reach
Too slow & short to hit the peaks
So lost & alone - trying to get home.

As another piece shatters
Another little bit gets lost
And what else really matters - at such a cost?

Like a losers reach -
Too slow & short to hit the peaks
So lost & alone - trying to get home.

Trying to get home -
Like broken stones - all trying to get home.

I'm really sorry to hear of your sad loss.

Sorry to have to ask but was she a mouse or a rat as I'm useless with rodents.
