Maya ~ Friendly Girl Needing TLC - 3yo Black Greyhound

MAYA

Maya is a 3 year old greyhound girl. She was surrendered in to our care as an unwanted pet, but we suspect that this isn’t the full story. She is in poor condition with a thick kennel coat that indicates she was not kept in a home. With some good food and TLC, though, it won’t be long before she’s a sleek black beauty.

Maya is new to our kennels and we are still assessing her personality. So far she has been a real little trooper, polite and friendly with everyone who visits her kennel. She is just begging to be loved and hugged and we hope to find her a home very soon.

Maya has been good with our other greyhounds in the kennels and enjoys her walks. She has not been tested with small dogs or cats but these can be carried out prior to adoption if required. There is a chance she may be cat friendly as she has no record of racing.

It is likely that Maya has not been in a home environment before, so new owners will need to be a bit understanding during the first couple of weeks and allow her time to settle and get accustomed to the changes. It usually takes 10-14 days for new greyhounds to start to settle down in a home, and really all they need is a bit of time and patience.

Like most greyhounds, Maya will not need a huge amount of exercise. She will be content with two 20min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch her legs offlead in a secure area once or twice a week.

In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. Greyhounds also don’t shed as much as other more popular dog breeds and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers.

This little girl is currently being kennelled in Ireland, and can be transported via Kerry Greyhounds to the UK or Europe if a suitable home offer comes up. This will be organised and paid for by Kerry Greyhounds, and we ask only for a donation to help cover costs. She is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.

If you are interested in fostering or adopting Maya, please email me for our adoption application form and information pack. Thanks!
