Mildred ~ Dear Golden Oldie - 8yo Chocolate Greyhound

MILDRED

Mildred is a 8.5 year old ex-racing greyhound girl who was also used for breeding. She has had a long, hard life and is truly deserving of a soft sofa to spend her retirement years dozing on. She has a thick, but soft brown coat with unusual white speckles on her ears.

Mildred is a friendly, people-orientated girl who loves her cuddles and will often lie at your feet waiting for her belly to be tickled. She gets excited when she sees you but this soon settles and she is in general a very calm, quiet girl. She is now in a foster home for the first time ever, and is soaking up all the attention she can get!

Mildred is settling now in her foster home and is doing very well. She has had a couple of accidents in the house, but this is just her settling in and she will soon be fully housetrained. Mildred’s confidence is growing by the day and she is a happy girl, content with the simple things in life. She can now tackle stairs and is happy to lay with you on her bed at night. She sleeps through the night and loves her walk first thing. She can also be left for up to two hours at a time without any problems. Mildred travels well and loves to stick her head out of the window to see where she is going!

Mildred loves her food but can be a bit grumpy when eating, feeling the need to defend her bowl from other hungry hounds, so feeding separately would benefit her until she realises that food is not in short supply.

Dear Mildred is very good with other dogs when there is no food involved, and is happy to meet anyone and everyone. She is not cat friendly. She walks really well on the lead and loves to sniff and explore. Like most greyhounds, Mildred will not need a huge amount of exercise. She will be content with two 20min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch her legs offlead in a secure area once or twice a week. Mildred’s basic recall is quite good and she can go off lead in safe areas, but she does have an independent streak so a close eye needs to be kept on her. She would benefit from more work in this area with treats as a tasty reward.

This sweet old girl would be best suited to a quiet family with older children and maybe with another dog with similar requirements.

In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. Greyhounds also don’t shed as much as other more popular dog breeds and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers.

**UPDATE: AUGUST 2010**

Mildred is doing very well in her foster home, and is definitely ready for her forever sofa now. She recently came along to the Cromer Carnival in Norfolk, where she got to meet lots of people and dogs of all shapes and sizes. She behaved very well with the crowds and really is an old dote.

Mildred also got to make friends with some of our other hounds looking for homes, and despite her age she seemed very partial to the big boys!

This gorgeous girl is currently in foster care in Norfolk, UK. She is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.

If you are interested in adopting Mildred, please email me on [email removed] for our adoption application and information pack. Thanks!
