Potter-new lump! - biopsy and removal of tumour + update

I feel awful!!!
For the last month Potter has had a little lump on her back leg, in between the 2 thin bones. Sorry dont know the technical term. It looks a bit like her foot pads or a callous (sp?). It felt the same as all her other 'old doggie' fatty lumps (that have all been checked and ok'd by vet), it wasnt annoying her or changing or anything really, just there!
I had to take her to the vet the other day for a thyroid blood test and mentioned it then. The vet is really worried about it and feels it is a nasty skin lesion! I presume he means tumour by that! I am waiting for the blood results next week and then he will biopsy it. He has said he cant remove it as the position it is in, there will be no skin to sew it up!
I feel awful! Why do I get neurotic about things that turn out to be nothing and then dont realise the importance of things that could be nasty!

Dont dwell on it because despite us dog owners doing everything humanly possible for our pets-we cannot ask them how they feel. You were obviously used to her having occasional fatty lumps and presumed it was much the same-i would imagine most people would have thought the same.

I'll be thinking about you both.

Hi there

Please don't get upset about it, if you were a vet then you would be in your to be upset for not noticing

Hope Potter will be okay though, let's hope whatever it is that it can be dealt with swiftly.

You're a great doggy mom so please don't beat yourself up over it .

Miss Potter remember the lump may be nothing at all, try not to assume it is bad until you get the results. Amy has so many strange growths..old dog warts, lypoma (fatty tissue lumps) moles I have given up counting ! I know nothing can be done if they are 'bad' because of her heart so I don't worry about them and they don't seem to bother her.

Please dont blame yourself Lianne...I know you are worried but it may not be a nasty after all...My little Bengi has recovered from three potentially very dangerous cancers...He has various "warty things" at the moment which I keep a wary eye on because of his past history, but all is well so far... Possibly Potters' lump could be causterised?...Perhaps you might like to ask for a referal to a specialist at the Vetinary College...Do keep us updated on her progress...Best Wishes...Lynne

Hope Potter's news is good news when it comes. I've been through this before with my greyhound Jeremy (now at Rainbow Bridge). I know the waiting feels hellish but hopefully you'll get the news you wish for

Hope everything is OK Miss Potter. Don't beat yourself up over this, you're not a vet and it is very easy to feel guilty over our furry friends. You treat her really well and have nothing to feel bad about.

It's not your fault at all Try not to get too upset (I know it's pretty useless to say that).

I really hope that things turn out ok for Potter.
