Advice required re:aggressive dog

Hi,

I am posting this on behalf of my mum, she phoned me tonight to say their dog Pepper had been attacked for the 2nd time by the same 2 dogs. On the first occasion a few weeks ago my stepdad was walking in the woods and Pepper was off lead when another offlead dog (he said it looked like a lab) came charging up to her, barking and snapping, left a few puncture wounds and Pepper v.shaken up. The owner had another dog on a lead and said to my stepdad he didn't know why his dog had attacked...

Then today my mum and stepdad were walking with Pepper when they seen the man up ahead, they called Pepper and put her on the lead. This time both the mans dogs were off lead and they both ran up to Pepper biting, barking growling etc. The owner shouted but they didnt return and only left Pepper when my stepdad kicked one of the dogs to get it off (he said he could only think of Pepper who was yelping and squealing). The owner said "i didn't see you coming" to which I can imagine my stepdad just ruled off expletives.

So..mum is really worried, Pepper is feeling very sorry for herself and there are a couple of little puncture wounds again. The man knows his dogs are aggressive but won't keep them on a lead. Mum is adament she will report it to the Dog Warden tomorrow. But I was just wondering, what would anyone else do in this situation?

Sorry it's awfy long!

I'd be the same as your Mom, if this kept happening I'd report it to the dog warden too.
He obviously realises that his dogs have a problem, so he needs to sort it out, I wouldn't be happy if I had put mine on a lead and they were attacked.

I hope you Mom's dog is ok and a little settled now. Bless her.

That is awful poor Pepper.
She does need to report him, he needs to keep them on the lead they could do more damage next time to Pepper or someone else's dog.

take a stick and beat the owner of the dogs. See how he likes it.

Thanks for your replies, mum says she is going to report it tomorrow, thing is Pepper is only 9 months old and is the biggest softy going and it's a shame this has happened to her twice.

take a stick and beat the owner of the dogs. See how he likes it.
I think my stepdad prob wasn't far off doing this, he's very protective of his baby!

poor Pepper, hope it doesnt affect her. these dogs do need reporting, i cant understand why people dont muzzle their dogs if they know theyre aggressive.
when deez was about 6 months a lab had a go at him, he tried to hide in a bush bless him. the woman of the lab was so apologetic, and said he had become like this lately, but to be fair she had him neutered, and got help with training etc. she is still worried and puts him on a lead or diverts when she sees a dog he's had a go at, but he's getting there.
luckily deez hasnt held a grudge and still likes labs. another dog- a ridgeback, was a pup, then as he got older, this dog had another go, and the other dog needed stitches- which the ridgebacks owner had to pay for!!!???
now the ridgeback, who is as soft as anything usually, pins down labs if they get too close. which is so sad, cos other walkers are wary of him now

We have the same problkem in our local park. There's a man with a boxer and a woman with a GSD who walk together every morning. The GSD attacked my friend's boxer and left her with puncture wounds in her side and the boxer has bitten several dogs unprovoked including mine. Luckily he didn't get his teeth through Loki's thick coat, but he's scarred my friend's Lab. They attacked a Lhasa pup last year and shook the poor thing. The boxer has also lunged at a child (It was on the end of a flexi, thank God). The dog warden and police have both been told several times, but until they bite a person, nothing will be done. All the local dog walkers know to avoid that park between 10 and 12 each morning. It's sad but that's what we have to do to avoid our dogs getting attacked. Both dogs are usually off lead and are never muzzled, despite the owners knowing that the dogs are nasty. It riles me that I have to keep my friendly dog on the lead and leave the park whilst their dogs are running free. I hope you have more luck with your local dog wardens.

Poor Pepper, I would report this dog owner too.

I would also find nice friendly dogs for Pepper to meet up with to build her confidence again.

We have some beautiful fields near where i live to walk dogs and you'll often find large crowds of friendly dogs and friendly dog walkers gathered letting their dogs bundle around our feet. I never had to take Kismet to puppy socialisation classes, I knew just where to go to meet lots of friendly well behaved puppies, dogs and people...

The word gets out quickly if there is an aggressive dog about, I know what you mean. We have been attacked twice on the field, once by a dalmation, once by a labrador, but we know to avoid, a couple of Jack russels, a white GSD (but she's working on it) and a Staffy

People may cross the field to avoid the doberman, the rottweiller and the mastiff, but they'd miss out on some of the soppiest most playful sillies on the field. In my experience it's the beautiful highly intelligent highly motivated breeds that have been poorly trained and exercised that are the most likely to pop... Odd that isn't it.

Poor Pepper, this happened to one of my dogs and he is now terrified of all strange dogs. This was 2 Weimaraners and they turned quite a lot of dog aggressive in this area but nobody reported them only me. Joe was sitting with his back to them when both went in, luckily my other 2 dogs, Dixie and Tommy took one each. Tommy had never started a fight but she always finished them, she sorted her dog out then took the other one off Dixie. That is the only time that Dixie attacked a dog in all the 14 years we had her.

This was about 10 years ago so I reported them to the police who ordered them to keep their dogs on a lead, they didn't but did put them on a lead when they saw me.

I hope your mum reports them, they owner will be orded to keep his dogs under control at this stage but I would also say that I was very frightened of being bitten and I want the money for the vet bills. Hit him in the pocket and he may think twice about letting them attack other dogs.

If your mum can give Peper Rescue Remedy it may help her and arnica for the bruising and wounds.
