So what do you think about dog cloning?

I saw a woman on the news earlier who has had five clones of her pit-bull who had recently died and it got me thinking.

I can fully understand why you some people would want to but it wouldnt be for me. You would have a dog whos dna would be the same but other than that it will never be the same dog. I would much rarther remember an old dog for what they were instead of chasing a dream of them still being around, however hard the loss hit me.

Totally opposed

I can understand a heartbroken owner losing their best friend and wanting them back, it is part of the grieving process but I think cloning is not the answer.

I believe in nurture, in the nature vrs nurture debate and the cloned dog will never experience the same set of situations that originally molded him into the special dog he became, this can only lead to more heartache as the new dog will be precisely that a new dog. Memories are not retained.
The interviewee talked about production and this term alone sent shivers down my spine. This is not a business and should be left well alone.
Unfortunately loss is the hard side of dog ownership and should be inevitable

Completely against it.
You won't get back the beloved pet who has died - that pet's temperament was made up not only of its genetic material, but of all the experiences you had with it in its lifetime.

I can see cloned dogs going into shelters as they don't turn out to be "just like Fido".

And that's the other point.. if you clone, you don't adopt (or buy).
Some poor dog that could be a brilliant companion will never get a chance.

You have special memories of a wonderful pet - leave them there - as memories.

Give another dog a chance.

We have too many dogs being bred as it is, the last thing we need is them being cloned as well!

I am against it!
Who knows what kind of monster they will create!
And anyways they do a crapy job - all cloned animals age much faster than "normal" ones.

I think cloning is wrong and deeply worrying and slippery slope to begin with and i agree with the fact that it will never "bring back" the original dog -especially the whole nature/nurture thing. Especially bearing in mind that in a different article it points out that he was a rescue - so not even initially raised by her.
In the other article about it it also points out that in order to finance the project she has had to sell her house. I hope she has enough space to keep FIVE new pups!!!!!!
