Idea for new section - your thoughts please!

Hi All

Just thought of an idea, well actually not my idea as many people have suggested something similar in the past.

How about a petitions section? But instead of it being a section where people simply post links to petitions hosted elsewhere, we have the petitions here.... of course with a slight twist.

There would be a main petitions section where people can post to show their support for something, ie act like a petition (where we'll only allow one post per thread er member) and then from the first post of each petition thread we''ll link to a petition discussion thread which will be in a sub section of the main Petition section, where people can discuss the topic of the petition.

The petitions don't have to be 'serious' all the time, for eg (and the idea actually came from this thread..) but here's a thread discussing george galloways latest 'idea' to muzzle all dogs in public! http://www.dogsey.com/showthread.php?t=66878 (although now he's saying just large dogs )

So we could have a peitition that was something like:

So whaddya think? hit or miss?

Sounds like a good idea.

But I'm not quite clear...for those serious topics where those signing would like the petition to actually be handed over (to the government or whoever), either hard copy or electronically how would that work?
