Does that make it clearer? Insurance is a minefield. You are much better off with a true lifetime policy although it will cost more in the short term.

Thanks very much - that clears things up nicely.

I think I am just going to have to grin and bear the petplan price...

Boxer 8 1/4 yo existing conditions
£104.99 per month or £1269 and some odd pence per year!!
RG postal code.

Excess now changed from £70 per condition per policy year to £70 per condition plus 20% of every claim once pet is over 8 yrs old or plus 10% of every claim if you pet is under 8 years old.

I've found once your pet reaches 6yo that premiums hike
significantly. This year's hike was 31.5% from last years premium. With no hike in benefits..

Spoke to independant pet insurance broker and they have advised that Pet Plan would be the best pet insurance company for me and my dogs in my postal code area.

I do have another Boxer with them presently coming up to
6 years old. Premium is £42.99 per month. I'm dreading to think how they will hike hers over the years.

Was told they base it on the breed, age and your postal code...sigh

Here is how much it would cost for me to insure the gundogs, not that I actually can, because it says they dont insure dogs that are used in connection with any profession, occupation or business.
I spoke to a fellow working gundog owner and she said this is because they are more at risk of getting hurt because they are out working all the time (or something along those lines!)

Anyway, if I didn't work them, this is what it would cost

Misty
15 month old
Spaniel cross
Monthly - £8.79
Annually - £105.48

Blade
20 month old
Labrador
Monthly - £11.19
Annually - £134.28

Gracie
2 year 4 months old
Springer Spaniel
Monthly - £10.39
Annually - £124.68

Hamish
5 year 6 months old
Labrador
Monthly - £14.39
Annually - £172.68

Finally went with Petplan Budget via vip4u.co.uk (who were the only people able to offer anywhere near sensible non-biased advice) at £53.8 per month (ouch!)
