SIZE and BREED are not the issue here -- people are!

Generalizations about dog breeds purely based on size don't help anyone and it is utter nonsense.
Couldnt agree more.

Oh gawd...
the whole point of the study was to explode the myth that banned dogs are more dangerous than not-banned dogs.
The study pointed out that the only factors influencing aggression were size (probably because smaller dogs feel more threatened) not breed.
So banning a dog because of its breed is a daft as ... a daft thing.
The idiocy of banning a breed because it is small is as moronic as banning a breed because it is big, if you read the study.

I do not think that any breed should be banned just because of the actions of some of that breed.

Sometimes just sometimes I do wonder if banning a breed can be better than seeing them used and misused as weapons and bred to death by people who have no idea.

See I read it as "No more Aggressive" not "no more dangerous" which isn't quite the same thing. I'm not sure banning a breed is daft either if it's being widely misused in the dog fighting/ herbal protection circles.

My two are classed as 'dangerous dogs' and as such should wear muzzles out and about. Any large dog over 20kilos is supposed to wear a muzzle over here but have, to date, only seen 1 GSD wearing a basket muzzle and to be fair he looked very edgy to me. My two are continually harrassed and challenged by smaller dogs, particularly Yorkies who are very popular with the older ladies over here. They bark at Jake and Ailsa, come roaring up yapping and whilst Ailsa ignores it all, Jake has to get involved and stick his five eggs in. I completely agree with this report.

As I said earlier Numpty owners are the danger not the dog.

People with small dogs that allow them to go after other dogs muzzled or on leads are numpties.

Well socialised and trained small dogs would not do it.

You are almost right - some dogs are going to be aggressive no matter how you socialise or train them we have a thread running about inherited aggression on the front page.

Also the number of dogs that become aggressive when rescued/adopted is I think on the rise they lose all trust so nervous aggression becomes the norm for them.

I think to be honest thats the crux of the matter, to many owners of small/toy breeds see no need to put any kind of training into their dogs.

And a lot have inherited dogs with baggage no amount of training will cure. The best we can do is keep the public safe.
