What a terrible time of it you're having with your poor injured dog. I've only just read this whole thread, what a complete nightmare it's been for you since the summer! Very strange that the specialist put that bandage on too tight and without enough padding isn't it??? I'm quite shocked at that! Anyway, just wanted to send you all my good wishes that she will recover from this, you've been through so much with her, and she's been through so much pain poor little mite. Let's hope the new drug keeps her relatively painfree and she can start using that leg. I expect there's a lot of muscle wastage in it now though? Poor little girl, please pass on a very gentle hug from me and I'm praying she gets better soon.xxx

I am so sorry to hear Wicca is still not able to bear weight on the injured leg, it must be incredibly frustrating and upsetting for you both.

Poor baby, it must be so painful . I do hope you see some improvement soon, I really feel for you. You must feel helpless when she is biting herself in pain, how awful for you to witness.

I sincerely hope and pray she gets better soon, you both really deserve some good news.

Hi everyone, thank you for all your support we certainly need it !
Quick update, the splint support came off on Sat , Wicca now just has a padded support bandage, she doesn't really use the leg & she is supposed to walk 3-4 times daily for about 15mins, the pressure sores are worse so difficult to know if its the sores or the injury , most probably its both, the vet is doing her best with alleviating the pressure off the sores but as her foot is also just bones covered in fur its difficult. The human drug she is taking thankfully does help with the pain just hope she can take them for the next 3weeks.

Wicca update
Still got a week to go in dressings but she is using the leg reasonably well at a very slow walk. we have been to see a physio & we have quite a few gentle exercises to do to help retrain her muscles (whats left of them). So maybe things are starting to look up for her at last still long way to go.

Update on Wicca
Hi well Wicca had her final dressing removed 9/11, she would not use her leg at all when she saw the specialist ,i think due to the pressure sores & very painful toes but he felt it was the original injury although he did say it had gone surprisingly well & no need to see her again
It was up to me if i took her for hydrotherapy/physio!!
Once home she did start to use the leg, the sores are better but have taken a while to settle as they were very deep.
The physio is excellent & is helping us a lot, we have sets of gentle exercises to carry out 3xdaily. We have invested in a digital muscle stimulator to help build up the quality & bulk of muscle & it is working really well, the physio has held off the hydrotherapy until she has some muscle & reasonable use back in leg. She is allowed 4 ten minute walks a day but only at a snails pace so she uses the leg, she will still carry it at a normal sort of pace.
thankfully Wicca is a tolerant dog & although her life as far as she is concerned is miserable i know its starting to improve. Once she can start swimming her mental state will be better as she loves water
Just hope we don't have any further setbacks & maybe one day she can resume her life as a sheepdog.
keep your fingers crossed for her
X K

Sorry only just found this. I read every page and felt all the ups and downs of each post. I so wanted to skip to the end and see if it had a "happy ending".

What an awful time you both have had. Hopefully things will improve more and more now. Wishing you both a healthy and happy future. Please keep coming with the updates as i shall be watching.

Just out of interest which area is the specialist in, as we have been referred to one in bristol, and so far haven't been that impressed. Took a week to return a call. They seem to want to take the big money but i am not so sure the service is there.

Thanks for the info..... the specialist i was referred to by my vet has not spoke to me yet and she will be having an mri scan with him in december. Have lots of question but have been told it is very hard to talk to him personally. Just doesn't feel comfortable meeting him on the day, but anyway he also was highly recommended so will have to see.

I would write down the questions, then i would ring the specialist place get a fax no & fax the questions over so at least he has them & take them with you as its always difficult to remember things when you are worried, hope it goes ok
