Throw Chain

i saw on a website that they had throw chains for sale, now i will admit i had not a clue what they were and thought some kind of strange retrieve toy, so done a google search on them, and from what i gather they are a chain that you launch at your dogs back end when it ignores you (recall, heel etc..)

i couldn't believe it when i read it and would never use one.

whats your thoughts on them?

yes but it doesn't stay permanantly attached to your hand, i dont see the difference between using this chain and say throwing a stone at your dog for ignoring you.

Ghastly.

The finest quality, Herm Sprenger throw chains, made in Germany. The end rings are unwelded, providing a ringing sound. Various training methods recommend specific uses.

Having googled it is used as a sound aversive like the discs but is tossed lightly at the dogs rear end to interrupt unwanted behaviour followed by swift praise for the desired behaviour.

I am not advocating their use just passing on the info I found.Having a sound phobic dog with rear end issues I cannot imagine anything worse!

A trainer i know uses a throw chain for recall when they ignore him but he doesnt throw it at the dog. he throws it at the ground near the dog then says come and the dog goes to him, he praises and then goes and collects the chain.
