Metal post locket

My Australian/Chow cross has started to lick the metal post on our car shed. What minerals do you think she may need or is this something else going on?

Wouldn't have thought it is a vitamin or mineral deficiency, although a course of general vits would do little harm. More likely to my way of thinking some animal whether wild or domesticated may have scent marked on the post and your dog is checking it out. Lots of animals scent mark their terrirtories dogs/fox/coyote etc., even cats so this act to me is not unusual in itself.

I would check with the vet. We did know two mastiffs who used to love mouthing metal fencing. They even had a discarded lock as a toy. Only danger I would see is chipping a tooth.

maybe your dog is not getting enough mental stimulation and is bored. That can leave to licking/chewing.
