Just a suggestion for making your own treats, have you tried nature diet?
I make my own treats now using nature diet. I just use one tub of food and mix it with some flour(i dont take measurements i just put a few fist fulls in) Then put it on a baking try and smooth it out to a thickness you like and then put it in the oven at 200*c for 30 minutes. Remember to turn it over after 15 minutes so that both sides get cooked.

The thicker you make it the longer it will have to stay in though and the more you use as well.. They should be crunchy on the outside but soft in the middle. You cut them to whatever size you want and then freeze them.
