Are they mad? Brand new homes in Ireland to be knocked down!

Brand new really nice looking homes in Ireland are to be knocked down

If they are going cheap they should advertise them to us lot in the UK... wonder how much they are!

They have been called the 'ghost estates' of the Irish Republic - about 300,000 homes built in the frenzy of the property boom that no-one wants to live in now.

Soon, many brand new houses could be demolished.

I saw this on the TV today Azz......There are loads of these estates all over Ireland. The houses are about 4 years old and have never had anyone living there. they spoke to a few residents who are essentially living in valueless homes with the ghost estate around them.

It does seem criminal though to knock them down when there are so many people without homes etc......

I would rather see them sold off at a fraction of their original price than get knocked down.

Who wants to buy one for £50,000 ?

Totally agree, or auction them off?

Pretty shocking. Developers went bananas in the North, too. Loads of people were buying land in my home town, and starting building BEFORE they'd got planning permission. It generally worked out, much to the disgust of other residents, but I know of a number of cases where houses were sold on, and the planning committee subsequently refused planning. Nothing to be done but pull the house down, and it was the buyers who took the wrap: not the property developers!
