How long can meat / bones stay buried for before their inedible to dogs ?

How long can meat / bones stay buried for before their inedible to dogs ?

Lily's taken to burying it when she has it She'll eat her kibble straight away but leaves any raw meat or bones until she can get outside to bury it, I've tried shutting her in her cage but she just doesn't eat it. She obviously likes it mud coated

It usually only stays buried for a couple of hours max sometimes it's only minutes before she digs it up and quite happily chomps on down on it

Also - Any idea why she does it?? I've never had a dog behave like this before

Jake does the same thing He usually leaves it for a day, and then eats it, but he has on occasion left it for longer. Not sure how long it can be left for, but I trust his judgement

Bitz, our last dog, used to leave smokey bones (and rabbits!) for a year or more. Occasionally she would dig them up and move them to another spot.

Come to think of it, she never actually did chew on those bones...........although she did roll on the rabbits before reburial.

My dog doesn't bury anything other than biscuits behind cushions, under rugs, pillows and behind doors but, when out with her she seems to be attracted to the mankiest rottenest oldest bits of bone that even the strays left behind.

And the only 'rodent' this little 'ratter' ever 'caught' was a tiny vole - by the look of it long since deceased?

Disgusting creatures really aren't they!

When you find something inedible to dogs, please let us know..................

I am sure I and millions of other dog owners would like to stock up on it!

I used to have a job finding something EDIBLE for the cavvy!

However - GSDs well, lemme see - there was the time when Sally took a large can of chappie out of the cupboard and BIT THROUGH THE TIN! (It looked like a colander - she must have sucked it out through the holes.)

And another time when we all went to the pub while Xmas dinner cooked - she pulled the oven door open and was eating the turkey while it was still in the oven - didn't pull it out or drag the tin out. Just chewed away at the cavity end.

Yes - 'proper dogs' eat anything! I was sure she'd eat the box the biscuits were in along with the biscuits if I didn't bother to open it. 'Goes down without touching the sides' was what I used to say.
