That made me smile. I think we are making progress. He's been with us just over one year, remember the first few months we didn't know his 'character' and I was a tad apprehensive in case he was liable to 'have a go' at me trying to take his dinner away.

By six months I was pretty much certain he was not that type of dog, but was still cautious (It might seem odd but I'm rather fond of my hands and arms )

Although he found the pheasant and carried it back to the car he did let it go when he was drinking.

The next stage is to grab it off him as soon as he finds one, I'll let you know about that

Can you teach him the Leave command using a ball then moving onto a biscuit or a bone, mine immediately back off when I say leave, although if there's a few of them squabbling over the same thing I have to wade in and tell them a few home truths, but I have never lost an arm or a leg in that situation, I can pick up whatever it is, even though they may be muttering oaths at me

TW, to be honest, it is vanity with the rash, the only way I can describe it is like chicken skin /goosebumps but all the time plus the red pin head rash...it is spreading up my shoulders now, will just have to trust the gp can sort it or I spend summer in t-shirts
My old chest consultant isn't a hottie...nor is my lead consultant but both are lovely people...very caring (usually) and very funny..infact the only hot Dr I have had is a heart specialist
Harvey, at training we use markets for football with a treat in for teaching leave. They are wee domes with a whole in them and you pop a treat in them....you get the dog to sniff the markers until they find a treat and then you make them sit and wait and leave until you say they can take it

Evening all - here we go again - what is auto correct? On second thoughts don't tell me as I won't be able to get the damn thing. Or if I do I'll probably hate it.
Seems like a poor result from your hospital visit, Griff, hope your GP can come up trumps for you.
Busy today being surgically seperated from my filthy luchre, the Mem has enjoyed it immensely though (she always does). Hope there won't be anymore extravaganzas of this type for a while! Sob! Boo-Hoo! Wail!

Harvey, easy to teach Leave with food. I use cooked chicken, put a piece on my flattened palm, as they go to take it, I close my hand round the chicken and say Leave. Dog backs off, confused, offer it again and do the same thing, when dog givesup and looks as you say Leave, but doesn't touch then you tell them how wonderful they are and give the chicken. Keep doing it every day until they wait to be told to Take It, then put the chicken on the ground with your foot on it, repeat until dog leaves when told, then progress to other things, like dead birds.
LG, it means that your device decides what the word is going to be, and unless you check before pressing send, the results can be hilarious

Think I'm better off trusting to luck, June, well that and a rudimentary grasp of english grammar. Seems one could get into all manner of scrapes and misunderstanding with such a device. Feel sure I can cause enough mayhem without putting my faith in a machine.
Thanks for informing me though! lol !
Off to bed now - goodnight all and see you tomorrow.
