and might I add...

my partners brother wont bring his daughter to our house because our new dog is

a] an unreliable rescue
b] black and ginger
c] big & german shephard-looking, with teeth.

our words were, "but look at her interacting with everyone, shes harmless, and loves people"

his words were, "yeah, she does NOW, but wait til she gets bigger. Im not taking any chances"

AAAAAAARGH, IGNORANCE...oozing from every orifice!!!!!!!!!!!

Thikipaedia:

SO YOU WANT TO GET A DOG?

There are various different places to get your new dog:

RESCUE CENTRE:
Rescue Dogs are generally owned by women in hairy jumpers who drive very old estate cars and wear wellies in Tescos. They bark a lot.

PEOPLE WHO JUST LET THEIR DOG HAVE THE ONE LITTER BECAUSE THEY ARE SO NICE
You`re better off getting one of these if you`ve got lots of kids and they are usually cheaper.

PEDIGREE DOGS
Pedigree dogs are worth a lot of money. You can get them out of the paper or go to a Breeder.
DOGS OUT OF THE PAPER:
these are usually rare breeds or colours. You can get pedigree puggles and all sort. And sometimes they are free but then theres usually something wrong with them like they bark a lot.
BREEDERS:
Breeders look a bit like Rescue women but swear more. They are all a bit mad because they want you to give the dog back if it barks a lot.

Following on from another thread...

Soap Opera Dogs - Unlike their big screen relatives these dogs are not the centre of attention, in fact they often disappear for weeks, months and sadly, often forever without trace.

They are generally good examples of pedigree breeds, which is strange as in soaps they are bought from the soapland doggie shop.
Main characters will suddenly pop up with a new puppy bought instantly from said doggie shop, thus avoiding waiting lists, home checks etc.

The exception to this rule is when one is found wandering, won in a poker game or just dumped on their character.

Soap dogs also change hands far more often than non-soap dogs some even seem to flit from owner to owner such as Terrence in Eastenders.

Training and behaviour of these dogs varies but generally has two types:

1. Well behaved except for those comedy moments when they eat another characters dinner, usually a baddies, which then causes lots of shaking of fists as the dog runs off with some sausages trailing from it's mouth. (Something non-soap dogs never do.... they'd just eat them straight away!).

2. Those more unlucky soap dogs who just appear. Often being carried and then don't get seen again. These are the saddest cases, an example of which is Ian Beale's Bassett Hound Chips.
These dogs are never seen to be walked, eat or poop. You won't even see a lead on their owners table or a bowl in their kitchen. No mess, no dog hairs and definitely no poop bags.
Sometimes their presence is just hinted at by some clever barking in the background, that those in the know would not ever come from that breed of dog.

These dogs are the most dangerous as they lull the general public into thinking all doggies are like soap dogs...... but are also the most likely to disappear without trace.

additional to above...

Film Star Dogs
Dogs like Lassie and Greyfriars Bobbie are really really clever dogs who have been to Drama College and Understand Every Word You Say. Your dog would do this except he`s thick.

Stunt Dogs
These are them Alsations and Rottenwilers that they borrow for werewolf films and that. This is what they are really like when they get in a pack so be warned

Well.... as nobody has done them yet...

Dalmatians
Proper spelling Dalmations - these black and white spotted dogs have 101 spots and only come in black and white. Brown spots = not a real dalmatian.
They are all born deaf and are stupid and unable to be trained but look great in your lounge.

Ideal for the houseproud, they do not shed hair and sit nicely in the corner of the room looking elegant and stylish.
When out and about with your dalmatian, it will trot lovely next to you and compliment high heels very well.
They like to be out but don't like getting muddy as they are 'posh dogs'.

These dogs are great with kids 'cos they were in that film and are soft as a brush, they won't make too much noise or ever get fed up of kids poking them and aren't them nasty guard dogs, 'cos they were bred for that film.
