Gerbils

Have acquired a couple of gerbils.

Love them already! They're so much fun to watch!

Pics soon.

You'll never have to cycle much cardboard at all!!!!

Toilet rolls, kitchen rolls, cereal boxes, egg boxes.....

They all got shredded here, when we had 3 gerbils we couldn't keep up the supple and demand of cardboard!

We also found wood pellets brilliant at keeping smell down and soaking up the water as we had messy drinkers. All of ours weed and pood in the same place, which was taken out 2-3 times a week (any more than that and we found they scent marked all over the place), and tank fully cleaned out every fortnight.

Two of our gerbils, and our mouse also LOVED having those coconut homes (from PAH) with the white fluffy bedding (PAH).

Heres Chalk our longest resident, who sadly passed a few weeks ago at a suprising age of around 3years+.

It's just a small one, god knows what I'll end up with though! So far, the shavings have stayed in the tank.

Aww, Chalk was lovely! And long lived too.

Thanks for the tips, all good to know!

They already have some toilet roll tubes and will keep some egg boxes for them too to shred to pieces!

Cute!

Mine were big diggers but were in full glass tanks so no mess. I originally had two girls named Lorne Spicer and Jonty (named after the presenters of Cash in the Attic), then a friend of a friend wanted rid if her two boys so I took them in too. She hadn't even named them! They ended up being called Fatty and Archbishop Desmond Tutu (Archie). They were great pets and I was so sad when they died!

Lovely hearing about other peoples gerbils.

Well, J & V have really settled in now. They say a digging gerbil is a happy gerbil.....well, mine must be completely ecstatic! They're having a rare old time digging tunnels, chewing cardboard and eating their food and are getting bigger.

They now come and take treats from my hand now which is brilliant. Jack is much more bolder than Victor, definitely two different personalities.

I dropped one of their Nutri Care biscuit treats this morning and Molly ate it! So Roxy had to get one too! I think they like small animal/gerbil treats.
