Low dose Aspirin

Hello

I don't know if this subject has been discussed before - apologise if it has - but is it safe to give dogs that have had a stroke a low dose of aspirin either short or long term?

Thanks in advance

Do you know for a fact the stroke was caused by a clot? If it was a hemorrhagic stroke then Aspirin would make it worse, have you spoken to your vet? How old is your dog and does he have other illnesses?

Thanks for the reply.

My dog is 13 and the vet just said yes a stroke and Lungworm the cause. Tilted head, flickering eyes, loss of coordination. He is on Vitofyllin 100 at the moment and will be long term if he makes it. Progressing slowly but making headway nevertheless.

Ok but strokes are not all the same, there are Ischemic strokes caused by a blockage, could be a clot or a globule of fat, and hemorrhagic strokes caused by a bleed. Did you discuss Aspirin with the vet? Aspirin is a blood thinner so if he suffered a bleed it would make it more likely he'd have another.

It really is something you need to check out with your vet. Never take chances with your dog's health - always trust the experts rather than the internet

He is being treated for an Ischemic stroke hence the propentofylline treatment. I will speak to my vet ASAP re the Aspirin.

Thanks again and to you Chris

Tbf without a ct or Mri they can't be sure. Vivitonin is commonly prescribed for Canine cognitive disorder too.
