Off the meds...Wish us luck!

Some of you may know that Toby became seriously ill in July last year. I just wanted to let you know that we have now been able to stop one of the steroids (prednisolone) after 6months slowly weaning him down, so please keep your fingers crossed for him! If all his levels hold ok we can start weaning him off the second lot of meds (azathioprine) in a month or two :0)

Wishing you and Toby lots of luck for him coming off some of his meds. Hope it's successful!

What was it that he had or has?

Immune Mediated Heamoltic Anemia (IMHA/AIHA) - which basically means his immune system started killing his own blood. He had to go on huge doses of steroids to suppress the immune system so we've had to wean down really slowly and have blood tests every few weeks to check its not started up again.

Everything firmly crossed for Toby. Heck that sounds like a terrible condition. I do hope that he fully recovers from it and that eventually the meds will no longer be needed

Best of luck to him. I've been on the same drugs in the past so I can imagine how he's been.

Poor Toby and poor you for what you have both been through. I have never heard of his condition but it sounds awful Everything crossed that he continues to improve and you can finally wean him off all steroids. Good luck and keep us updated.

Just got Tobys most recent blood tests back and all is looking good :0) Been off the prednisolone steroid for month now and, fingers crossed, no problems.

The vet wants to leave it a few more weeks before we reduce the azathioprine again but we are taking him off the zantac (I know thats not a major one but still nice to get him off it!)

This is what he was released from the vets with in July...

...so one tablet every 3 days is a big improvement!

Photo of my sick little boy in July about 4 days after he got sick

and this one was taken just before christmas
