Pidge's Garden Update (no pictures yet though)

Hello

Well the garden is very nearly finished. We ran out of materials late Sat so had to sit on our hands all day yesterday because obviously nowhere was open.

It's not looking Japanese-y anymore as we've run out of money but with what we've managed to do so far it's now looking pretty bloody fab! I'm so chuffed.

Basically with the decking and beach cobbles we've put down it now looks very beach-like (think cobbles, drifwood, beach hut etc).

In terms of plants I've had to keep them to a minimum and have decided to keep some of the oriental style ones I wanted, instead of beach scene grasses etc. Do you think this will work? It's quite an eclectic mix of plants and I'm wondering if I should have stuck to the theme rather than just get the ones I love?

Also, I need to know what pots to pot the plants in as am rubbish at that kind of thing. Neil, bless him has made me a lovely big square planter out of the left over decking bits and I have 6 ceremics (in various shades of blue and purple).

The plants I have coming are:

1. Hardy Bamboo - http://www.jparkers.co.uk/Index.cfm?...ttype_id=48357 - would this work in Neil's made planter? It's 50cm squared.

2. Butterfly Acer - http://www.jparkers.co.uk/Index.cfm?...ttype_id=46870 - how big will this get? Will it need a small, med or large pot?

3. Dwarf Pear Tree - http://www.jparkers.co.uk/Index.cfm?...ttype_id=48053 - I thought this would look great on the decking but what to pot it in?

4. Chilli Plant - http://www.jparkers.co.uk/Index.cfm?...ttype_id=49394 - should I have this off the ground to keep it away form Woody? How big will it grow?

5. Acer - http://www.jparkers.co.uk/Index.cfm?...ttype_id=49837 - this is free but I think it's lovely. Again, what size pot?

6. Two Yukkas (like the two at the front of the picture) - http://www.bimdadgen.com.au/img/yukka-agave-large.jpg

We're also toying with the idea of painting the shed to look like a traditional English Beach Hut, but am worrying that might be too gimmicky. Let me know what you think when I get the pictures up later today.

Sounds like it's coming along nicely. Can't wait to see some photo's.

I love the idea of a japanese/oriental theme as well.

Em, that first link is a duff one - and its taking so long to transfer now to an external website, I'll have to look later when I have more time. In the meantime, can you tell us how large your pots are?
