Private Dental Treatment

Thanks to my greedy dentist we have had a letter today saying that from March he will only treat private patients and any appointments after that are cancelled (I made one 4 months ago and they gave me April 28th - now I know why )

What I need to know is do you have to go with Denplan or something like them because they look like a waste of money to me cos all you get is 2 checkups and 2 hygienist appointments for £156 a year - no treatment is included in this price. Well I would rather just pay for whatever treatment I actually need and not waste precious money which I can't afford on hygienists and check ups. Is there any way round this or is this the only option other than going without a dentist.
