I've never met an Estrela in 'real life' - do you get a lot of people thinking they are Leonbergers...? Or maybe they don't look that alike and it's just me thinking they look a bit similar...?

Lovely pics. I really do think Dan is gorgeous.
It's not just you. There are two dogs I see around town regularly and they're either Leonbergers or Estrelas and I have no idea which. I always think of Dan when I see them though, they're the same colour.

tbf I don't think most people know what Leonbergers are either. I get Newfoundland, St Bernard and oddly, GSD a lot. If you saw an Estrela and a Leo side by side you would see the only similarity is the colour. Bit like Sibes and Mals.

Could be either, there are a few Estrelas in Germany, although I would think they would be more likely to be Leos. One of the main differences is the ears Leos have large pendant ears that they bring forward, Estrelas have small ears that fold backward. Plus the size - Estrelas are not a giant breed and they really aren't that big (or shouldn't be!)
